Rotary Club of Lake Placid

Rotary Club of Lake Placid ’s  Parks Revitalization Project

Members of the Rotary club of Lake Placid are revitalizing  both The Jewtraw & Power St Parks which are adjacent to Mill Pond in the Village of Lake Placid, NY. The Club  conducted a survey of the users of the both  Parks to determine their specific desires. This was helpful in developing the additional equipment list and the users concerns...

They have cleaned up the both Parks: Planted 21 new trees, pruned the existing trees, added gardens, fixed fences, added picnic tables & grills. They arranged for the relocation of one piece of playground equipment from the Peacock Park to the Power St Park .

A new fence was installed on the easterly side of Power St Park and the neighbor re seeded their lawn. Lisa G’s Restaurant hosted a fund raising dinner and our first  “Dam Duck Race” as part of our fund raising/publicity program. Club members did the manual work of tree pruning , gardening and fence repair/replacement, and grill installation.

Because of Rotary ’s interest and  the community survey the village has agreed to post park hours and install dog pooper scooper stations and trash barrels in all seven community parks.

In the spring there will be lots of color from the 150 tulip & crocus bulbs which were planted in the newly tilled gardens.

The  Club will complete their Centennial Parks Project as soon as the snow melts and the Playground equipment can be installed.

. We added a Train Slide in Jewtraw Park in June 05 and are storing the  toddler swing set and  a small climbing wall for the  Power St Park .. These items will be added when the sewer construction is completed.

The Uihlein Foundation has provided a substantial grant  which paid for the TRAIN SLIDE  for Jewtraw Park . This park currently has no playground equipment in it and since it is almost across the street from the local train station t the “Train Theme” is fitting. We truly appreciate the support of the Uihlein Foundation.

We trimmed the trees and added 21 more.

We added grills and picnic tables

Fences ware repaired as well

To celebrate Rotary's 100th anniversary , on February 23...we dedicated the Park during a snow storm.

In June we added this Train Slide to Jewtraw Park

The climbing wall & swing set have been added.  Big work party on 9/22/06. Some finishing work to do.

In 2008 we Added a  Sand Box car to the Train.

The "Dam Duck Race"  Started in 2004 and is held annually in June.

Our "FUN" fund raiser, The "Dam Duck Race" actually used rubber ducks  to float over the Mill Pond Dam.  A pasta dinner is  held at  Lisa G's  to top off the evening.

We look forward to repeating this event annually.
